Great News: The Rules for Filming Council Meetings Have Changed (June 2013)

Recent legislation (June 2013) has made space for citizen journalists to record public meetings in order to fulfil the localism agenda and share this with members of the local community. This is a really important step for small communities such as ours in order to demystify the process of local governance, and to make available the materials and documentation that we are already permitted access to by law.

Hyperlocal Blogging on websites such as ours is one such way in which online media has made possible the public sharing of information in an open and transparent way. For local councils, this is beneficial in terms of getting the important messages out to those who need to be made aware of them. This is in alignment with the council's own policies on both the sharing of public information and, of key importance for us at this time, for public commentary on the planning process. As the Rushcliffe Statement of Community Involvement states, this encourages 'the promotion of community engagement and involvement in the planning process - to all sections of the community' (Rushcliffe, 2007:5)

The Radcliffe on Trent Extra-Ordinary Meeting is to be held tonight, Weds 11th Dec 2013, at The Grange Hall, Radcliffe at 7pm.

Please find both the Rushcliffe Statement of Community Involvement (2007) and the document containing details of the new legislation available here:
