Extra-Ordinary Turn Out for Last Night's Extra-Ordinary Parish Council Meeting

How wonderful to see such an impressive turn-out of our Radcliffe community to the extra-ordinary parish council meeting. We would also like to extend our support to the members of Newton village who were in attendance. This proposed development, if granted planning permission, has an impact upon us all.

Some bad news, but this will be followed with an array of good news.

The bad news;
Radcliffe on Trent Parish Council denied us the right to film, as they felt it was the decision of the local parish council whether or not they would allow this to take place. They have asked in future that we allow three days notice to allow them to consider our request. We will be following this up with Radcliffe On Trent Parish Council and Rushcliffe Borough Council.

The good news;
Our village spirit is something that we should all be very proud of. There was a huge turn out with in excess of 150 community members in attendance. William Davis Ltd. were present and responded to many of the concerns raised by our community, and through the course of which there were some interesting revelations, which we will share with you in due course. An hour was given over to public discussion, rather than the usual 15 minutes, and while many members of the local community did not get to have their say, the points that were raised were valid ones and some of which had telling outcomes in terms of the ensuing discussion.

Of the Radcliffe on Trent Parish Councillors present, there was a united front in terms of the objections to the proposed development, and they each spent time identifying how they would be voting and giving their reasons for their choice. While ultimately Rushcliffe Borough Council will make the decision on the planning application, it is reassuring to know that we have the support of our Parish Councillors. They were accommodating of the views of the members of our community and a resounding message of opposition came from both community members and our Radcliffe Parish Councillors. Cllr Kay Cutts was present as was Cllr Neil Clarke and both gave insightful input and guidance on what happens next and an early warning of being careful what we wish for.

This may all sound very cryptic, but we feel that it is important to do justice to a meeting of this size and scale. So while we apologise for any frustration caused in the delayed delivery of our full report on the meeting, due to our inability to record this meeting and share it with you, we want to report the activities back in full, and this will take a little longer. As a new working day calls, there is not time to do this now, but that's where our lunch breaks and evenings come in.

Well done to everyone who was able to contribute at this meeting. Reassuringly we did not feel the need to speak on behalf of our community members, as you did a darn good job of doing that yourselves! We give a good fight in Radcliffe on Trent, and long may that continue.

  2. Many thanks for your comments, these are much appreciated and keep us motivated to act. If our activities are of benefit even to a small proportion of our community, then we will continue to do so. Here's to fighting the good fight!

  3. It is good to see that the younger members of the community are so concerned about the welfare of the village in future.

  4. Yes and to see so many of them present and contributing at the Radcliffe on Trent Extra-Ordinary Parish Council Meeting just goes to show how passionate the whole community is. It's not just about the impact that it will have upon those of us who use the village now, but the future that we leave behind for our children and our grandchildren.
